J. M. DeSantis

A Couple of New Things

J. M. DeSantis news

The summer is coming to an end, and for me, that means returning to my teaching job. There’s a lot I need to have place for my work output to be a well-oiled machine when school starts, plus there’s so little of the time off left to enjoy. Those things considered, I’ve decided to take a little social media and (possible) blog break (some of you may have noticed I didn’t post on Monday or Tuesday). I’m not sure for exactly how long I’ll be taking this break (I may very well be back before school starts on September 8th, but no later than then), but I’ll be hard at work behind the scenes the whole while. That said, even though I’ll be fairly quiet for a bit, there are a couple of things you can check out during the silence.

First and foremost, if you didn’t know already, last week was the 125th Birthday of H. P. Lovecraft (who’s turning out to be quite controversial of late). In honour of the day, I launched a new web-comic, Gentleman Cthulhu: Emeritus Moribus Monstrum (gentlemancthulhu.com). It’s just a little side project I’ve been developing for a while (you can read the full story in the first full blog post on the site). I’m not doing much to promote it at this point, because my focus is still Chadhiyana (the second issue of which should be out next month, and I’m currently working on art for issue 3).

By way of a short explanation, I just wanted to put out some additional regular content but something that wouldn’t be too taxing on my time. What’s more, it’s very different from my Chadhiyana work, being a simple three-panel humourous comic. You can find out more about it on the website, gentlemancthulhu.com.

J. M. DeSantis 2015 Banner ArtAlso, you may have noticed the new banner image at the top of this site. The art is from my new banner which I started bringing to conventions this summer (modified a bit to fit the above space). I thought it would be a good idea to work on branding myself in a consistent way. My business cards and even a new bookmark I have on my table will start featuring this image as well. So, there’s that.

Last of all (and perhaps most importantly), you may have noticed the “Mailing List” item which appeared in the sidebar of this site yesterday. It’s precisely what it seems. I’m starting up a mailing list.

As it is, I’m always trying to think of new ways to promote my work, and with four websites, one of them a web-comic, a bi-monthly comic coming out, a few other projects and things in the works and this weekly blog, I thought a newsletter would be a great way to remind people of all the various goings on in the J. M. DeSantis universe.

At this point, I’m only gathering e-mail addresses. I’m not going send out the first newsletter until late September or early October, and it will only be monthly from there on. But, if you want to make sure you’re on top of everything I’m putting out there, or you just need a reminder to keep checking back for more, please add your name to mailing list. I’m going to try this thing out and see how it goes. So wish me luck!

Below this post is a form for getting on the mailing list (though you can use the one in the sidebar as well–you just can’t enter your name in that one). So if you want on it, get in now, and look for the first “issue” in the Fall.

That said, I’m getting back to work. I’ve only got about two weeks before school starts up again and there’s Chadhiyana and other work to be done. Plus, I’d just like to have some time to relax before my schedule really becomes hectic. I hope you’re all enjoying your summer. See you all again in a week or two.

Cheers!
