All Caught Up (Mostly)

J. M. DeSantis Blog Post

About a month ago I posted that I was running just a tad behind on a few things due to a dreadfully disheartening school year in the district where I teach (amongst other things) and that I was going to need a bit of time to catch up. Little did I know it was going to take about a month to do so; I thought a week, two at the most–but as the saying goes, “Even the best laid plans…”

I’m happy to report I have finally caught up–well, almost. Chadhiyana #5 has been submitted to my editor for, well, editing. I’m doing my best to catch up on the few weeks of missed Gentleman Cthulhu comics (one comic posts today, one tomorrow, and I’m hoping to post a third this week). I’ll also have a special blog post tomorrow for the one I missed last week. (I think it’s the first time I’ve missed a blog post in years.)

My sincere apologies to all of my fans and readers who have waited patiently, but I needed to recharge (apparently more than I knew) and get my head back where it needed to be to create. It worked (I think) as I was feeling a bit bogged down for quite a few months, and I’m really enjoying working again–in fact, delays or not, I loved working on Chadhiyana #5 and look forward to its release. I also spent a little time enjoying the summer thus far (which I hope no one will begrudge me–I don’t apologise for that, as I’m something of a workaholic naturally). There was only one unexpected and unfortunate setback, and that was the death of a family member of someone close to me.

Today’s Gentleman Cthulhu comic, though I’d written the script a while back (yes, I write scripts even for these little three-panel comics), was a way to poke fun at the fact that this seemingly fun and effortless comic does take more effort sometimes than even I had imagined when I first decided to do it. Honestly, it takes only a couple of hours to put a Gentleman Cthulhu together, but it is surprisingly difficult to find the time amongst everything else I’m juggling (Chadhiyana especially). Still, I enjoy doing them.

I’m going to do what I can in the future to ensure fewer delays (if any) for both Chadhiyana and Gentleman Cthulhu. After all, in life, I’m a very particular and timely person, so it’s a bit maddening that I may actually be associated with lateness in regards to my creative work–something I haven’t always liked about other creators. Though I am learning as time goes on that delays happen in this line of work (it’s sort of the nature of this thing we do).

That said, the summer is not quite half over, and I have a few things planned, not least of which are three upcoming conventions which I’m looking forward to: Boston, Newark and Baltimore (in that order). I’m also hoping to get a bit of additional Chadhiyana work done (in preparation for the forthcoming publication of the first trade in 2017, and again, to help ensure fewer delays for the second half of the graphic novel), not to mention a few other things which I’ll keep close to the chest until they are a little more ironed out. But as always, expect some forthcoming things from me (some of which I’ve hinted at in the past).

With five weeks of summer left before I return to my teaching post, I plan to make them count, personally and creatively. Wish me luck and see you tomorrow with another post–this one specifically about Chadhiyana and Gentleman Cthulhu, so check back.

Cheers!
