Reflections on 2017

It’s been a strange year, 2017. Indeed, I daresay it’s been humbling. Much has happened and been accomplished this year, but it’s also been a year for much reflection, growth, and change. Most of that change has happened behind the scenes, as it were, but it has shown itself in little ways throughout. Perhaps it’s fitting, as 2017, and to the month specifically (December, that is), marks ten years of professional work for me. Indeed, that seems to be the theme of this entire year for me, though I didn’t plan it that way: to take a step back, reflect on things, and make changes where necessary. Read more… ›

Two Big Announcements from Rosarium Publishing

Rosarium_Publishing_SunTzu_quoteToday is a very special day for me and Chadhiyana (my medieval Indian assassin comic). Not only has Chadhiyana #4 been given a release date of April 27th, but Rosarium Publishing (Chadhiyana’s publisher) has launched a massive crowdfunding campaign in order to reach the next level in its growth as a publisher: indiegogo.com/projects/rosarium-publishing-the-next-level (appropriately named Rosarium Publishing: The Next Level). The Problem of Chapter Breaks in a Graphic Novel Script

J. M. DeSantis Blog Post

NOTE: I wrote the following late last year, and have since found a way of solving the problem for myself (though I’m certain I’ll be re-thinking this solution again someday). That said, I decided to post the following anyway, for what it’s worth.

I tend to be a very heady person, in case some of you who read this blog regularly or semi-regularly didn’t already know. Often I’ll overthink a thing to the point it becomes dizzyingly abstract. Perhaps the following will be deemed such an example, though I would argue my overthinking here has much to do with the lack of any real, concrete rules to follow. Specifically, I’m talking about the lack of a definitive comic script format and how that effects a particular aspect of script writing I’ve not once seen discussed: how to indicate chapter breaks in a graphic novel script? Chadhiyana #3 & Upcoming Event

Chadhiyana #3 News

The New Year has only just begun, and already there are some big things on the horizon. Within just a short period of time, the long-awaited third issue of Chadhiyana is going to be released, and I’ll be making an appearance at another comic book event. So get your calendars out. It’s time to start marking down a few important dates.  Read more… ›

Update on Chadhiyana #3

Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows News

The end of the year is fast approaching, and typically the last three weeks are planned out for an end-of-year reflection post, a Happy Holidays post, and a Happy New Years post (in that order). So that leaves this week as the last week of the year for any topic I choose, and I haven’t put out any information on the state or release of Chadhiyana #3. I don’t have any official news yet, but I will give you all a bit of something, rather than remaining silent until the first full week in January. Read more… ›

ComiXology, the comiXologist and Conventions

Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows News

Chadhiyana #1 was officially been out for a week (through Rosarium Publishing), but there’s still more to come. Late last week, the first issue of Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows was added to comiXology.com and even earned a mention on the comiXologist post-San Diego Comic-Con podcast! More, this weekend begins a three-week-straight convention tour for Chadhiyana and myself. Read more… ›

Just One Week Away

Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows News

This week and next week, my blog posts are coming a bit early (I usually post new blogs on Wednesday on jmdesantis.com and Tuesday on chadhiyana.com–though the latter may officially change), as next Monday, July 13th, is the “scheduled” release date for issue one of Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows. I put scheduled in quotations, because if you’ve been keeping up with the recent Chadhiyana news, you know that my publisher (Rosarium Publishing) is actually ahead of schedule with the book’s release. Breaking Chadhiyana News

Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows News

Sometimes Christmas comes early, and this year (for me) it has. Little did I know what was going to happen when I woke up today and got in the studio, but you know it’s got to be something big if I’m posting a second blog entry in the same week. A little over an hour ago I got some surprising and exciting news from Chadhiyana’s publisher, Rosarium Publishing… Read more… ›

First Chadhiyana Review and Release Date

Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows News

If you don’t follow me on social media (then you should be!), you probably missed two big announcements in the past couple of weeks. First and foremost, the first issue of my graphic novel series, Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows, has been given the tentative release date of July 13, 2015 by Rosarium Publishing (pending no delays). As written in the past, the publisher opted to release the book digitally first in single issues. You’ll be able to find them on Comixology every other month (and–fingers crossed–Amazon?). I know it’s a bit of a wait, but really it’s just around the corner. That said, the book was also recently reviewed, for the first time, by Colored Books for Colored Folks. Honestly, if nothing I’ve said in the past has sold you on it, I think this review will. Read more… ›

Continual Transition

J. M. DeSantis Blog Post

After last week’s announcement that Rosarium Publishing is going to be the publisher for my graphic novel, Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows (chadhiyana.com), it seems like anything I could possibly write about this week would be trivial in comparison. That is, anything except for a release date, but I don’t have one yet. So this week, I do not aim so lofty. It’s merely a week of updates, and some information on why I think 2015 is going to be “something of a transition year” [from last week’s post].  Read more… ›
