It’s been too long since I posted a proper update about the Chadhiyana graphic novel. Since announcing it in April, I’ve mentioned the story is going to be “fuller” than the first two short stories and (often) that progress is going slow and steady. Part of the reason I haven’t said more until now is because I’ve been busy with other things I wanted to promote (gallery shows, conventions, updates to my website, etc). The other reason (and more importantly) is that the process of creating this graphic novel is going much slower than I anticipated. However, things are finally coming together on the project (mostly). In light of that, I thought it was high time I said more about the book and how it’s coming along. (Read more…)

As I typically do following a convention, I wanted to take the time to thank everyone who stopped by my table this past weekend and showed their support. This was my first year exhibiting at the Boston Comic Con, and I’m glad I finally took the time to do it. I always enjoy meeting fans and introducing new people to my work, and I feel the Boston Comic Con was a wonderful experience; I’d be happy to exhibit at the show again. (Read more…)

Just a reminder that this weekend I’ll be exhibiting in Artist Alley at the Boston Comic Con for the first time ever (table # 829)! I’m very excited for this show for a number of reasons. First, I love the city of Boston; second, I’ve heard great things about this convention; and last but not least, I’m glad to see it’s still happening. After all, as many of you know, the Boston Comic Con was cancelled in April in the wake of the Boston Marathon tragedy. I was all too happy to see it was rescheduled, and I’m looking forward to bringing Chadhiyana and some of my other works to Boston (not to mention, just getting a chance to see the city again). I was going to post an update about my progress on the Chadhiyana graphic novel this week–an in-depth update, no less–however, that will have to wait until after the Boston Comic Con next weekend. Instead, I have a time-sensitive subject to write about: the Kickstarter campaign for Sara Rising, a new comic from artist James Rodriguez and writer Emilio Rodriguez of Novastar Studios (visit the Sara Rising Kickstarter page by clicking here). I’ve never before promoted someone else’s work on my website (that may change, depending on circumstances), but in this case I felt the need to. I wasn’t put up to this. There’s another lull in news this week as I continue to work on the Chadhiyana graphic novel. (I’m still writing the script and am now simultaneously working on a number of character designs.) That said, I was still busy this past weekend at a private art gathering held at the home of Secaucus, New Jersey (and formerly New York) resident artist Bobby “Hairy Hand” Travieso, and the experience was so interesting and unique that I felt it necessary to write a little something about it. Since late April, I’ve been updating one or two of my website’s art galleries each month in an attempt to not only catch up on some of the artwork I’ve been meaning to post for quite some time, but also to update the galleries with larger (and thus more detailed and visually descriptive) thumbnail images. And this week, the final gallery, the Sketches section, has at last been updated. (Read more…)

Sorry for the late post this week, folks. I hope all of my American fans and followers enjoyed the 4th of July yesterday (I know I did!). Just a brief reminder that I will be appearing at the Boston Comic Con next month for its new dates and location: August 3rd and 4th (Saturday and Sunday) at the World Seaport Trade Center in Boston, MA. This will be my first time appearing at the con, and it’s my hope by then that more news will be available about the Chadhiyana graphic novel I’m currently working on. (Yes, I’m still writing the script, but I’ve also done a lot of character designs this week as well.) So, if you’re in the area or planning on going, make sure you stop by my Artist Alley table. As of yesterday, jmdesantis.com is working to full capacity (after about a week of having problems due to issues on its hosting end). That means I was finally able to update the Miscellaneous Illustration gallery, as I’d planned to do last week. The update is somewhat small compared to many of the others that have been happening over the past few weeks. Late last week, jmdesantis.com went down for a little over a day due to a problem with the server on which it was being hosted. This left me unable to access the site. As you can see, the site is live again, though there are a number of areas I still cannot access as the issue is continuing to be resolved. That said, this week’s update (an update to the Miscellaneous Illustration gallery) will not be possible. I’m hoping to have full access to the site by next week and so be able to make that happen. In the meanwhile, for what it’s worth, I apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment this may cause (especially for those who might have thought I’d disappeared when they visited the site last Thursday). I’ll be back next week, hopefully with full access again.
