Baltimore Comic-Con 2013 – Thank You

As I always do after a convention, I want to take the time to thank everyone who stopped by my table and showed their support, especially those who picked up a copy of Chadhiyana; I hope you enjoy it. Though I wanted to do something a little different this time. I had taken some time over the weekend to walk around the convention a bit and meet other industry professionals (as I often do). This time around, I have to say, I think it was the best experience I’ve ever had with it and, as such, I have a few additional people to thank. Read more… ›

J. M. DeSantis at the 2013 Baltimore Comic-Con this Weekend

Baltimore Comic Con 2013For the second year in a row, I’ll be exhibiting at the Baltimore Comic-Con (in Artist Alley; table # A-129). Be sure to drop by for a copy of the first Chadhiyana comic (which had just been sent out to the printer last year), get some up-to-date information on the currently in-progress Chadhiyana graphic novel (Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows), a convention sketch, other merchandise, or just to say hello. I really enjoyed last year’s show, and I’m looking forward to an even better show this year. I hope to see a lot of you attend. Cheers!

The New Chadhiyana Painting and More Progress

Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows PromoThis week’s blog entry will be the last Chadhiyana update for a week or two. Next weekend is the Baltimore Comic Con and, as usual, I’ll likely take the time to promote that event in my blog next week. However, at the moment, I’m happy to report I’ve completed the promotional Chadhiyana painting I starting working on two weeks ago, and I have a special preview of it for all of you. Read more… ›

Further Chadhiyana Progress

Chadhiyana: iCoS pencils page 1Last week, I began penciling the Chadhiyana graphic novel (Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows), but there’s a lot more to do besides comic pages before I can launch the web-comic. I’ve been busy with just about all of it this week (and one small, side project). So, here’s a brief update about where I am this week, as promised.

At this point, only two pages of the Prologue have been penciled. Don’t panic. It’s not that I work that slow or was slacking off. Unfortunately, I had to switch gears for a few days and concentrate on some other things. First, I wanted to create a new Chadhiyana logo for the graphic novel, something crisper than the original, hand-drawn logo which decorates the first Chadhiyana comic (visit IndyPlanet.com to purchase a copy). On the Chadhiyana Graphic Novel

Writing Chadhiyana: In the Company of ShadowsIt’s been too long since I posted a proper update about the Chadhiyana graphic novel. Since announcing it in April, I’ve mentioned the story is going to be “fuller” than the first two short stories and (often) that progress is going slow and steady. Part of the reason I haven’t said more until now is because I’ve been busy with other things I wanted to promote (gallery shows, conventions, updates to my website, etc). The other reason (and more importantly) is that the process of creating this graphic novel is going much slower than I anticipated. However, things are finally coming together on the project (mostly). In light of that, I thought it was high time I said more about the book and how it’s coming along. Read more… ›

Boston Comic Con 2013 – Thank You

As I typically do following a convention, I wanted to take the time to thank everyone who stopped by my table this past weekend and showed their support. This was my first year exhibiting at the Boston Comic Con, and I’m glad I finally took the time to do it. I always enjoy meeting fans and introducing new people to my work, and I feel the Boston Comic Con was a wonderful experience; I’d be happy to exhibit at the show again. Read more… ›

Boston Comic Con This Weekend, Baltimore Comic-Con Next Month

Just a reminder that this weekend I’ll be exhibiting in Artist Alley at the Boston Comic Con for the first time ever (table # 829)! I’m very excited for this show for a number of reasons. First, I love the city of Boston; second, I’ve heard great things about this convention; and last but not least, I’m glad to see it’s still happening. After all, as many of you know, the Boston Comic Con was cancelled in April in the wake of the Boston Marathon tragedy. I was all too happy to see it was rescheduled, and I’m looking forward to bringing Chadhiyana and some of my other works to Boston (not to mention, just getting a chance to see the city again). Support Sara Rising

Sara RisingI was going to post an update about my progress on the Chadhiyana graphic novel this week–an in-depth update, no less–however, that will have to wait until after the Boston Comic Con next weekend. Instead, I have a time-sensitive subject to write about: the Kickstarter campaign for Sara Rising, a new comic from artist James Rodriguez and writer Emilio Rodriguez of Novastar Studios (visit the Sara Rising Kickstarter page by clicking here). I’ve never before promoted someone else’s work on my website (that may change, depending on circumstances), but in this case I felt the need to. I wasn’t put up to this. I’m writing this because, frankly, I believe in this comic project, even if I have no involvement in it. Read more… ›

Hairy Hand Art Show 2013

There’s another lull in news this week as I continue to work on the Chadhiyana graphic novel. (I’m still writing the script and am now simultaneously working on a number of character designs.) That said, I was still busy this past weekend at a private art gathering held at the home of Secaucus, New Jersey (and formerly New York) resident artist Bobby “Hairy Hand” Travieso, and the experience was so interesting and unique that I felt it necessary to write a little something about it. Sketches Gallery Update

My Flowerbed sketchSince late April, I’ve been updating one or two of my website’s art galleries each month in an attempt to not only catch up on some of the artwork I’ve been meaning to post for quite some time, but also to update the galleries with larger (and thus more detailed and visually descriptive) thumbnail images. And this week, the final gallery, the Sketches section, has at last been updated. Read more… ›
