Where I Won’t Be This Weekend

J. M. DeSantis Blog

The Baltimore Comic-Con is this weekend (Friday through Saturday) at the Baltimore Convention Center, and (unfortunately) for the first time in four years, I will not be there. Of course, I don’t write that begrudgingly. I’ll be a groomsman for a good, long-time friend of mine who is getting married this weekend. Though I will say it is hard to know I won’t be there this year, especially since I really enjoy both Baltimore and the convention. What’s more, Baltimore Comic-Con seems to be the con where I have the most repeat customers and fans, and my publisher is right nearby in D.C. Because of all of this I’m going to make a very special offer. Read more… ›

Bronx Heroes: Women in Comics – This Weekend

If you’re in the Bronx this weekend, or planning to be, don’t miss you chance to see me at the Bronx Library Center this Saturday, May 2nd for the Bronx Heroes: Women in Comics Convention. Admission is free, as always for Bronx Heroes, and this time the focus of the convention is women creators and women characters. A perfect fit for my medieval Indian fantasy heroine, Chadhiyana! J. M. DeSantis Cuts Off Handlebar Mustache

Much to my surprise, my handlebar mustache has proven very popular. Of course, I won’t make the claim that each and every person I come across loves the thing, but generally speaking, there seems to be an uncanny amount of people who come up to me asking for a picture with me and my mustache or simply to say what a great mustache it is. Even Chadhiyana (my most popular creation to date) doesn’t quite seem to rival the attention my mustache gets–well, that may not be true, but it certainly does seem that way. That said, one may wonder why I planned to shave the thing off following Halloween this past weekend. Read more… ›

Just Some Random Musings & News

I have to be honest. For the first time in a while, I’m a little stuck. I have no idea what to write for today’s blog post. Sure, I could finish a number of the half-written blog pieces I keep on the back burner for moments like these, but at the moment, my head just isn’t there. Sometimes, it’s best to write about whatever’s on your mind at the moment–just to get the brain juices flowing. It’s probably a symptom of being distracted by a few deadlines I have to meet in the next two weeks and the upcoming Boston Comic Con (August 8 – 10, 2014). This is a typical thing that happens before a convention. So, I’ll just embrace it rather than fight it. Here goes. Read more… ›

A Bit of Ghoulish Poetry

In light of my blog post two weeks ago about my afternoon stroll through a graveyard with my girlfriend (which you can read here), I thought I’d share a humourous poem about death I’d been working on, on-and-off, for a couple of months. It was a bit experimental. I held myself to the strict rules that each line had to be seven syllables and always a question (given, some of the questions fit the term loosely). And then, of course, I like to rhyme (even if it’s not the fashionable way to write poetry in the Modern Age). I don’t write poetry very often, and I think I’m a decent poet at best, but I do love a good poem, when it’s well written. I hope you enjoy this one. I’ll be sure to upload it to the writing section posthaste. Read more… ›

Happy Birthday Jimi Hendrix!

It’s Jimi Hendrix’s birthday! For those Jimi fans out there, you can check out a painting I did of the musician a few years ago, in the miscellaneous section of my website: jmdesantis.com/illustration/miscellaneous.html
