Just a quick reminder that I will be exhibiting in Artist Alley at the Baltimore Comic-Con this weekend (table A109). The convention beings on Friday, September 5th and will run until Sunday, September 7th; however, I will only be attending the convention for two days: Saturday and Sunday. I will not be able to get down to Baltimore until late on September 5th, so I will not have my table set up that day (sorry to those folks who only have Friday tickets). Read more… ›
Not since I was working on Game-Flush.com (which is becoming quite a dated reference now) have I written about video games or my gaming experiences. Though this is a blog primarily about my writing and art, gaming has been one of the few past times in which I have consistently engaged since an early age. As such, video games have always been an inspiration to me creatively, and in fact are largely responsible for why I turned to comics as a medium for telling my stories (perhaps I’ll write more on that another time). So, I thought I’d change things up a bit this week and write about games. Specifically, the Souls series, in honour of recently completing my first play though Dark Souls 2. Read more… ›
It was only a week and a half ago that I was in Boston for the 2014 Boston Comic Con. Though I’ve already written about that event last week, I thought I’d take the time to write about the two extra days I spent in Boston with my girlfriend and her daughter, by way of a mini-holiday to wind down the event. Blasphemous as it is for a Jersey boy to say, Boston is my favourite city (I’ve been twice before–once for the 2013 Boston Comic Con, and once for a day trip up from Cape Cod). What’s more, my girlfriend and I love the New England area in general, and we’re both avid lovers of history. Read more… ›
This year’s Boston Comic Con was a fantastic event. In fact, it was by far the most successful show I’ve had in five years of exhibiting at comic conventions. Of course, as cliché as it is to say, the truth is it wouldn’t have been such a success without the support of those who stopped by my table, even if it was just to look and say a few kind words about my work.
That said, I want to thank everyone who bought prints, commissions, bookmarks, and especially those who picked up the second edition of Chadhiyana. I hope you enjoy it, and continue reading the graphic novel, Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows on chadhiyana.com. If you weren’t at the show, you still have the opportunity to pick up a copy at the Baltimore and New York Comic Cons in the coming months. The comic is also available on IndyPlanet.com (print and digital) and the Inbeon Studios store (digital only). Read more… ›
I have to be honest. For the first time in a while, I’m a little stuck. I have no idea what to write for today’s blog post. Sure, I could finish a number of the half-written blog pieces I keep on the back burner for moments like these, but at the moment, my head just isn’t there. Sometimes, it’s best to write about whatever’s on your mind at the moment–just to get the brain juices flowing. It’s probably a symptom of being distracted by a few deadlines I have to meet in the next two weeks and the upcoming Boston Comic Con (August 8 – 10, 2014). This is a typical thing that happens before a convention. So, I’ll just embrace it rather than fight it. Here goes. Read more… ›
For years I’ve kept timesheets for my art-related jobs and projects. I started this practice after doing research about the business end of being a creative professional (you know, the really important stuff no one ever talks or writes about), and I’ve found it quite helpful. Perhaps I’ll write about why another time. For now, I’ll merely state that amongst their many uses, timesheets give me a fairly accurate measure of my work pace. I’ve gotten much faster in the past two years, but frankly, I feel I could be working faster still. So, amongst the many projects I have lined up for the summer, one of my personal goals is to train myself to work even faster–without sacrificing quality, of course. Read more… ›

It’s difficult to know where to start, not for a lack of having something to write this week, but rather there’s been a lot happening worth writing about. So much happened within the last week that I wound up working through the weekend, forcing me to take the day off today (other than writing this blog piece, of course). At last the work is done (in a manner of speaking–I’ve a lot more to do this summer), and I can take a breather. That said, for you the reader (especially my Chadhiyana fans) there’s some exciting new things happening. Read more… ›
In a year of already three deaths, I was hoping to not have to write another one of these again for a while. Though the present memoriam is not for someone who was as close to me as my grandparents or my mentor and friend, Bill Baker, the death of C.J. Henderson (on July 4, 2014) still came as a shock. I didn’t know him very well, and though he never remembered me from a previous encounter, our creative paths seemed strangely entwined. Not to mention, he gave me a few pieces of helpful advice over the years, and I was there with a roll of tape when he needed it most. Read more… ›
Independence Day is just around the corner (well, State-side, that is), and so is my return to conventions. As I mentioned early in the year, I took the first half of the year off (from public appearances) to concentrate on my new teaching post, the classes I had to take to add a teaching certificate to my BFA and my graphic novel, Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows (posting weekly on chadhiyana.com). Now, summer is here, the graphic novel is moving smoothly and the Boston Comic Con is roughly one month away. Read more… ›
My first year of teaching full-time is over, and with it my Alternate Route classes as well. (In New Jersey, as in many other states, you can go to school for a teaching certificate if you have a Bachelors Degree, but only in subject areas where you have enough credits.) Both my last day of work and my last Alternate Route class were yesterday, though my students were done last Friday. Now I can sit back and as many teachers do, reflect on the year past. Read more… ›
