An Amazing 4th Year for the BCBF

This past Saturday’s 4th annual Black Comic Book Festival was quite an event. Not only was it well organised and the people friendly, but it was so well attended that the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture was hardly large enough to hold the thousands who came out for the show. In fact so many attended that there was a line to get in for a good portion of the day. That was just wonderful, as there needs to be this kind of support not only for small publishers and independent creators (what solely made up the show), but specifically black creators and characters in comics. Black Comic Book Festival This Weekend

J. M. DeSantis Event

The 4th annual Black Comic Book Festival is being held this Saturday, January 16th, at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (New York, NY). As the name suggests, it’s a celebration of black comic heroes, heroines and creators. Like most comic events, the BCBF includes panels, workshops, film screenings and exhibitor tables. Amongst the exhibitors will be my publisher (for the Chadhiyana series), Rosarium Publishing, and they’ve asked me to join them for the event! (Read more…)

Chadhiyana #3 & Upcoming Event

Chadhiyana #3 News

The New Year has only just begun, and already there are some big things on the horizon. Within just a short period of time, the long-awaited third issue of Chadhiyana is going to be released, and I’ll be making an appearance at another comic book event. So get your calendars out. It’s time to start marking down a few important dates.  (Read more…)

Happy New Year!

Though it’s a few days early, I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year! Let’s hope 2016 is a wonderful and successful year for us all. If you wish, you can go back a couple of posts and read my reflections on 2015. Otherwise, I’ll see you all in the new year with the next issue of Chadhiyana, more Gentleman Cthulhu and much, much more!

All the Best,
J. M. DeSantis

Happy Holidays 2015!

Even though Hanukkah has passed and Kwanza and Christmas are not quite here yet, I usually take the week of Christmas (the particular Holidays holiday that I celebrate) to wish everyone Happy Holidays and take some time to enjoy this time of the year. So whether you celebrate the Holidays or not, belated or early, Happy Holidays to you and yours!

All the Best,
J. M. DeSantis

Reflections on 2015

J. M. DeSantis Blog Post

2015 has been a landmark year! I don’t want to sound like I’m bragging, but I can’t help the truth of it. There have been some amazing things that happened this year, some of which I’ve been wanting or working toward for a good portion of my adult life (some since I was a kid, even). From getting a publisher, to moving into a new place and even winding up in the hospital at one point, 2015 was filled with incredible ups and downs. So pull up a comfortable chair and pour a glass of eggnog. It’s time for my annual reflections on the year past. (Read more…)

Update on Chadhiyana #3

Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows News

The end of the year is fast approaching, and typically the last three weeks are planned out for an end-of-year reflection post, a Happy Holidays post, and a Happy New Years post (in that order). So that leaves this week as the last week of the year for any topic I choose, and I haven’t put out any information on the state or release of Chadhiyana #3. I don’t have any official news yet, but I will give you all a bit of something, rather than remaining silent until the first full week in January. (Read more…)

The Only True Remaining Holiday

J. M. DeSantis Blog Post

Despite the most recent Gentleman Cthulhu comic I posted (“Giving Thanks” on gentlemancthulhu.com–which, actually, proved popular when Strange-Aeons Magazine re-posted it on their Facebook page), I don’t have a cynical opinion of Thanksgiving. Certainly, its origins are questionable at best, but the way in which its celebrated today I think can be taken separate from its beginnings. Family and friends get together to enjoy a bountiful home cooked meal (some do go out instead, I know) and enjoy (or tolerate) each other’s company. But that’s what holidays are supposed to be about at their heart, aren’t they? (Read more…)

Happy Thanksgiving

Though my blog posts are posting a day earlier since the summer (I used to post on Wednesdays) and so this may seem as coming a little early, I wanted to take the time to wish all of my American fans and readers a Happy Thanksgiving! May you spend it with those you care about–and I hope the food is good and plentiful too.

If you’re looking for a little more from me and maybe some artwork about the holiday, check gentlemancthulhu.com tomorrow for a Thanksgiving themed comic. See you next week–likely a few pounds heavier from gorging myself on turkey and stuffing (which I never used to much like when I was younger, but it grew on me over time).

Cheers!

An Unprecedented Offer

J. M. DeSantis Blog Post

Typically in the winter months I hibernate to some extent. Besides taking the time to enjoy the Holidays and my family and friends, I take a break from public appearances and concentrate on working in my studio exclusively; it’s just such a hectic time of the year. This year, however, I wanted to try something different. No, I won’t be attending any more conventions until 2016 (which is also just around the corner), but I am going to offer something that you can only get from me at conventions: commissions!  (Read more…)
