GSCF This Weekend

J. M. DeSantis at the Garden State Comic Fest 2016

As usual the week of an upcoming convention, I’m just writing this to remind anyone living in or near Morristown, New Jersey (or making a trip there) that I will be exhibiting at the Garden State Comic Fest on Saturday and Sunday at the Mennen Sports Arena. This will be both my second year doing the show and the show’s second at this new(ish) location. Read more… ›

Summer Begins and More Conventions Approach

J. M. DeSantis at the Garden State Comic Fest 2016 in two weeks

The 2015-2016 school year ends for me this week (I teach, you know, besides blogging weekly, working on Chadhiyana, Gentleman Cthulhu and other creative projects), and it’s been a bit hectic. I’m juggling a lot, catching up on some things and getting ready for a summer of working in the studio full-time (it’s nice to have to work only one job for two months out of the year). So, with that, I’m just going to take a brief moment to point out that in about three weeks’ time, I’ll be exhibiting at the Garden State Comic Fest–the first of three or four conventions for the summer. Thank You White Plains!

Just a quick thank you to everyone who came out to support the White Plains Comic Con this past Saturday, especially those who bought commissions, prints and copies of Chadhiyana. As I said last year, I really hope this convention continues to grow, as the people in the White Plains area seem to be very supportive of the event and it’s extremely well run. Really, one of the best conventions I’ve been to.  Read more… ›

White Plains Comic Con This Saturday

J. M. DeSantis Event - White Plains Comic Con 2016

Greetings! I hope you all had a memorable Memorial Day. I’m just writing this little reminder that I’ll be appearing at the second annual White Plains Comic Con this Saturday, June 4th. Last year’s event was one of the single most supported and attended conventions (for its size) that I have ever exhibited at. I’m hoping that success can be repeated (beaten, even) this year. As always, I’ll have prints of my work on sale, copies of Chadhiyana, and I’ll be offering commissions throughout the show. Though I’m happy just to sit and talk about my work or debate the lore of the latest Dark Souls game.  Read more… ›

Back in the Swing of Things

J. M. DeSantis blog post

I’m back! Well, that is to say, I never really left, but as stated in one of my previous blog pieces, I decided to take a little bit of an internet break following the Rosarium Publishing IndieGoGo campaign. It was taking a lot of my attention and energy, and I just needed a bit of time to recharge. Fortunately, the campaign was a success and there was a lot of support for Chadhiyana as well. I’m very much looking forward to the release of the first trade (in January). In the meanwhile, today’s blog is about a few things that might have been or were missed in the shadow of the campaign. The Final Days of Chadhiyana and Rosarium

Chadhiyana Rosarium Publishing: The Next Level

The end of the Rosarium Publishing IndieGoGo campaign approaches (http://bit.ly/rosariumpub), and with it your chance to pre-order Chadhiyana volume 1 (issues 1 – 6) which comes with an exclusive mini-comic containing a new Chadhiyana story (see last week’s post for more information on that comic). Chadhiyana has consistently been one of the top-claimed perks since the beginning of the campaign. More, just hours after I had written this post yesterday, Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series, announced that he would match up to $10,000 in donations through the end of the campaign during the day on Wednesday, May 4th (rickriordan.blogspot.com/2016/05/support-great-publisher-who-values.html).

So, if you haven’t contributed yet, please do so soon. Simply click on the Chadhiyana perk, and it will bring you to a page to complete your pre-order. You’ll not only get the Chadhiyana trade and the comic, but you’ll be supporting diversity in publishing, which is the main mission of Rosarium, and help them reach the match-goal Mr. Riordan generously offered. East Coast ComiCon Wrap-Up

Thank you to everyone who came out to the East Coast ComiCon this past weekend and showed their support, and especially those who said they’d check out the present IndieGoGo campaign from the publisher of Chadhiyana, Rosarium Publishing: indiegogo.com/projects/rosarium-publishing-the-next-level#/. As with last year, it was something of a mixed show. The crowds were thin at times, but the opportunities to produce some work, shake some hands and catch up with old friends was wonderful. East Coast ComiCon this Weekend

J. M. DeSantis East Coast ComiCon 2016

Just a brief reminder that not only is the Rosarium Publishing IndieGoGo campaign still going strong (indiegogo.com/projects/rosarium-publishing-the-next-level), but also that this weekend I’ll be exhibiting at the East Coast ComiCon for its second year in Secaucus, New Jersey (April 16th & 17th). So begins (officially) my convention season (though I did attend the Black Comic Book Festival in January with Rosarium Publishing) and so continues Rosarium Publishing’s campaign to raise money for printing and promotional costs for books such as the forthcoming first Chadhiyana trade (collecting issues 1 – 6 of the series). 2016 Convention Appearances Begin in One Month

J. M. DeSantis Event Annoucement

Last year, I had a very successful run of conventions. It was the first year in seven years of exhibiting that I success, and more, each convention I appeared at went better than the previous one. This year, I’m hoping to top last year, and it all begins with next month’s East Coast ComiCon (that is, if you don’t count January’s Black Comic Book Festival, where I appeared with Rosarium Publishing). An Amazing 4th Year for the BCBF

This past Saturday’s 4th annual Black Comic Book Festival was quite an event. Not only was it well organised and the people friendly, but it was so well attended that the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture was hardly large enough to hold the thousands who came out for the show. In fact so many attended that there was a line to get in for a good portion of the day. That was just wonderful, as there needs to be this kind of support not only for small publishers and independent creators (what solely made up the show), but specifically black creators and characters in comics.
