Despite the most recent Gentleman Cthulhu comic I posted (“Giving Thanks” on gentlemancthulhu.com–which, actually, proved popular when Strange-Aeons Magazine re-posted it on their Facebook page), I don’t have a cynical opinion of Thanksgiving. Certainly, its origins are questionable at best, but the way in which its celebrated today I think can be taken separate from its beginnings. Family and friends get together to enjoy a bountiful home cooked meal (some do go out instead, I know) and enjoy (or tolerate) each other’s company. But that’s what holidays are supposed to be about at their heart, aren’t they? Read more… ›
Typically in the winter months I hibernate to some extent. Besides taking the time to enjoy the Holidays and my family and friends, I take a break from public appearances and concentrate on working in my studio exclusively; it’s just such a hectic time of the year. This year, however, I wanted to try something different. No, I won’t be attending any more conventions until 2016 (which is also just around the corner), but I am going to offer something that you can only get from me at conventions: commissions! I’ve only been off from writing my blog for a week, and yet it feels like forever. So please excuse me as I write off some of the rust. Though I’ve been writing every day, I’m suddenly stumped with the prospect of having to write a blog piece. So things may move in a sort of stream-of-consciousness sort of way. But, after all, that’s the benefits of writing a blog. It doesn’t have to be about anything really (though, the best blogs are about something). Read more… ›
Another year has passed and the New York Comic Con is upon us once more! For the sixth year in a row I will be making an appearance at the show, this time in the exact same spot as last year: Booth 1259 in the Small Press area! Of course, it’s long past time I got back into Artist Alley, but that’s another story. For now, I’m just happy to be participating in such a monumental pop-culture event. Read more… ›
The Baltimore Comic-Con is this weekend (Friday through Saturday) at the Baltimore Convention Center, and (unfortunately) for the first time in four years, I will not be there. Of course, I don’t write that begrudgingly. I’ll be a groomsman for a good, long-time friend of mine who is getting married this weekend. Though I will say it is hard to know I won’t be there this year, especially since I really enjoy both Baltimore and the convention. What’s more, Baltimore Comic-Con seems to be the con where I have the most repeat customers and fans, and my publisher is right nearby in D.C. Because of all of this I’m going to make a very special offer. Read more… ›
It’s September 8th and you know what that means: it’s exactly one month to the day before the start of the 2015 New York Comic Con! It’s also six days and some odd hours before extended ticket mailing for the show closes. As in the previous few years, I be exhibiting in the small press area (I believe at the same booth as last year: 1259)–so be sure not to look for me in artist alley. That said, though I’ll be in the same spot as some small publishers, it’s not only books you can get at my booth (though, you can get books too). Read more… ›
Just a gentle reminder that I am starting up a mailing list which will focus on all of my work (including Chadhiyana and the new Gentleman Cthulhu web-comic: gentlemancthulhu.com). Of course, social media follows are always great, but if you want to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the important releases and content from yours truly, be sure to fill out the form at the end of this blog post and confirm your subscription with the follow up e-mail you should receive. The summer is coming to an end, and for me, that means returning to my teaching job. There’s a lot I need to have place for my work output to be a well-oiled machine when school starts, plus there’s so little of the time off left to enjoy. Those things considered, I’ve decided to take a little social media and (possible) blog break (some of you may have noticed I didn’t post on Monday or Tuesday). I’m not sure for exactly how long I’ll be taking this break (I may very well be back before school starts on September 8th, but no later than then), but I’ll be hard at work behind the scenes the whole while. That said, even though I’ll be fairly quiet for a bit, there are a couple of things you can check out during the silence. Read more… ›
If you follow me on social media, you would have seen that I posted a terrifying and disappointing picture on Friday (and with how often I’m using social media for updates, you should be following me there, if you don’t already). Yes, it’s true. I took a scissors to those luscious curls and shaved my face bare. But I’m sure the question is, why did I get rid of my much beloved, constantly complimented handlebar moustache? About every two years I replace the image on the standing banner I bring to conventions. It all started with my original 2011 purchase which featured my painting Goddess of Sand–this was the very banner of which people kept asking about the Indian woman depicted and which prompted the creation of Chadhiyana. Chadhiyana, of course, has been featured on my banners ever since. If you’ve been following me on social media, you’ve seen shots of art work for my new banner as it came together. On Monday, I finished it and as promised, it’s time to show it off. Read more… ›
