It was admittedly a mixed experience at the White Plains Comic Fest this past weekend, likely stemming from trying out a new venue for the growing show. But I consider any issues a fluke, as this has always been and still is a great show for me, and I was excited to return this year (after a scheduling conflict last year) and see some old friends and faces. My thanks, as always, to Ray Felix (of Bronx Heroes) and Nancy Silberkleit (of Archie Comics) who are always supportive and follow up with me every year. I’ll be back again in 2019, rest assured.

That said, the short trip and one-day show was just a warm up for the very long drive and two-day show coming up this weekend: the 3 Rivers Comic Con in Pittsburgh, PA.  (Read more…)

Since starting my blog back at the end of 2012 (following the publication of the first Chadhiyana comic), I don’t think I’ve ever let so much time pass between posts. First, thank you to the students at Vassar College for their hard work at the No Such Con this past weekend and for inviting me back. I had a great time catching up with some people I met last year–both exhibitors and attendees–and speaking on the panels about Cultural Competency and Self-Publishing respectively (and a special thanks to Danielle Draik and Emily Ree for inviting me to the latter). I know I’ve written sentiments like this before, but February and March are going to be full of activity. First off, besides the work I’m doing and changes I’m making behind the scenes, I’m putting out a new Gentleman Cthulhu comic in a month or two (which I’m funding through my Patreon this month). I’m also planning to finally have some news about Chadhiyana in March. And those are just the projects that people who are familiar with my work know about. So with everything I’m working on and toward, I thought it would be a perfect time to do something of a funds drive, especially for that new Gentleman Cthulhu collection…  (Read more…)

I’m sorry I missed my blog post last week. For what it’s worth, I’ve been extremely hard at work behind the scenes, especially on the fiction writing end, and somewhat because of that, I didn’t have the time, energy or even idea of what to write for a blog post last week. As I’ve said and hinted at in the previous few posts, last year was an unplanned year for reflection, and so this year is for application and adjustments based on those reflections—some of which in fact probably go further back than last year. I’d like to think of 2018 as a culmination, and again, what better time for it than now, after ten years of professional work?  (Read more…)

The New Year has begun, and this one in particular is a special one (even more so than last year), because 2018 marks 10 years of professionally published work for me. In observance of that, and following last year’s reassessment of things, there are going to be some changes, some familiar things continued, and even a few new things on the horizon. All of that will be revealed in good time, but for now, time (and space) is running out to get a commission by mail from me before the first major change coming this year: my prices are increasing on all services!  (Read more…)

It’s been a strange year, 2017. Indeed, I daresay it’s been humbling. Much has happened and been accomplished this year, but it’s also been a year for much reflection, growth, and change. Most of that change has happened behind the scenes, as it were, but it has shown itself in little ways throughout. Perhaps it’s fitting, as 2017, and to the month specifically (December, that is), marks ten years of professional work for me. Indeed, that seems to be the theme of this entire year for me, though I didn’t plan it that way: to take a step back, reflect on things, and make changes where necessary. (Read more…)
