As I’ve written before this year, I may be writing less blog pieces and took a break from shows, but there’s a lot happening behind the scenes (as the publications of Robert Phillips and J. M. DeSantis: The First Ten Years should already prove). But we’re nearing the end of the summer, and with the Fall comes my planned return to public appearances and shows, and just in time for that I was asked to take part in a local author event at Barnes & Noble, as well as to do a second interview with Sequential Tart. And then there are some new web-developments on the horizon, including this site and Gentleman Cthulhu. Read more… ›
As I announced some time ago, I was going to be taking a long break from conventions and public appearances in order to focus on creating more work. So far, the creation end has been going well, with two books, a comic, and some new prints already done—and more of all on the way. My planned return to the public eye was going to be in the Fall, but I was surprised and humbled when I was invited to be a part of Barnes & Noble’s local author event (in Princeton, New Jersey) for a Q&A session and a signing for my latest book, and first novel, Robert Phillips.
On 24 August (Saturday) at 6:00 pm, I’ll be speaking about, taking questions, and signing Robert Phillips at Barnes & Noble in Princeton, New Jersey. Read more… ›
The votes are in for my Inktober 2019 theme! However, before I begin, I have to give a heartfelt thank you to all of the fans and staff at the Baltimore Comic-Con this weekend for helping make this yet another successful year. As I said last week, I’ll be cutting down on (and essentially taking off from) conventions for a year or so, unless I’m a guest, such as at the No Such Con in the winter. Yet the response to my work was so warm, I couldn’t help but make an exception for Baltimore. Read more… ›
I’ve been absent a while (at least on this blog), but not gone entirely. There are a few things I’ve had to attend to personally and a number of things developing behind the scenes (which my Patreon supporters had a full update about yesterday). But there’s no time to lose on explanations. Baltimore Comic-Con is nigh (I’ll be there all three days), Inktober lurks around the corner, and NaNoWriMo looms in the distance. Read more… ›
So, 3 Rivers ComiCon was another mixed experience. The crowds were a little thin for what I’m used to (maybe it’s normal for that area), but the guest experience was incredible. Really, I miss the days when all conventions offered perks to the vendors, artists, and other guests, and the folks at 3 Rivers ComiCon did it right! Read more… ›
It was admittedly a mixed experience at the White Plains Comic Fest this past weekend, likely stemming from trying out a new venue for the growing show. But I consider any issues a fluke, as this has always been and still is a great show for me, and I was excited to return this year (after a scheduling conflict last year) and see some old friends and faces. My thanks, as always, to Ray Felix (of Bronx Heroes) and Nancy Silberkleit (of Archie Comics) who are always supportive and follow up with me every year. I’ll be back again in 2019, rest assured.
That said, the short trip and one-day show was just a warm up for the very long drive and two-day show coming up this weekend: the 3 Rivers Comic Con in Pittsburgh, PA. Read more… ›
Since starting my blog back at the end of 2012 (following the publication of the first Chadhiyana comic), I don’t think I’ve ever let so much time pass between posts. The reasons for that are many, but rather than dwell on the past, I’d like to get everyone up to speed on the new, the old, and the behind-but-catching-up (and to do so in as few words as possible). First, thank you to the students at Vassar College for their hard work at the No Such Con this past weekend and for inviting me back. I had a great time catching up with some people I met last year–both exhibitors and attendees–and speaking on the panels about Cultural Competency and Self-Publishing respectively (and a special thanks to Danielle Draik and Emily Ree for inviting me to the latter). There were a few surprises during the weekend too, but before I get into that, I want to point out to my readers that the final days are approaching to get your name included in the And They Call it Mummy Love collection as a supporter (deadline: 28 February 2018). Just a brief note that I’ve been invited back to the No Such Con at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York this year. Sorry for the late notice, but this is a small, student-run show, and the details took a bit to iron out, but if you are in the area, please stop by. I’ll be speaking on a few panels, and have my new Inktober 2017 Sketchbook on sale at the table (for the first time). Read more… ›
Let me start by writing, I had a blast at New York Comic Con this year. Although parts of it were disappointing, to say the least (Saturday was surprisingly dead, and my worst Saturday on record, despite the show being a success overall), hanging out behind the table with Chris Campana was a lot of fun. So first, thanks to Chris for making it an enjoyable show, and for bouncing ideas and talking shop. That’s the sort of thing you just can’t put a price tag on at a show. Read more… ›
