Garden State Comic Fest Success

J. M. DeSantis GSCF 2017 write up

It was quite an eventful weekend both inside and outside the Garden State Comic Fest. For starters, Friday kicked things off with the release of Castevania on Netflix (expect a write up soon) and going out for a night with two people I love very much to finally see Wonder Woman. (How’s that for preparation for a comic convention?) Then there was the con itself which went successfully, and garnered (as usual) interest in both Chadhiyana and Gentleman Cthulhu. Read more… ›

Garden State Comic Fest & The Summer Going Forward

J. M. DeSantis at the Garden State Comic Fest 2017

For the third year in a row (and since its move to a new location) I’ll be appearing at the Garden State Comic Fest this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) at the Mennen Arena in Morristown, New Jersey. Generally, I haven’t had much luck at cons in my native state, though GSCF is the exception. It’s one of the better cons I do year after year, and it’s run by some of the most passionate and dedicated guys I’ve seen in the con business (and I’m still impressed and grateful to Dave O’Hare’s for last year’s kindness and quick action). That said, I know I haven’t posted in almost a month…even on my Patreon and gentlemancthulhu.com. So, this weekend not only kicks off the first of three summer cons, but it also starts a re-engagement on my part. Read more… ›

AACPL Comic Con Thank You

J. M. DeSantis AACPL Comic Con Thank You

I just wanted to quickly take the time to thank the Odenton Library for inviting myself and my other Rosarium Publishing compatriots to the AAPCL (Anne Arundel County Public Library) Comic Con this past Saturday (and my thanks too to Bill Campbell for asking me to be a part of Rosarium’s presence there). It was a small show, but sometimes those are the most fun and relaxing. Plus, I always enjoy speaking on panels, and as per the encouragement of my publisher, I’m trying to speak on more of them going forward. Read more… ›

Comics Panel this Weekend at the AAPCL CC

J. M. DeSantis at the AAPCL Comic Con 2017

Just a brief reminder that I’m speaking on a panel with other members of Rosarium Publishing at the AAPCL (Anne Arundel Public County Library) Comic Con this Saturday. The panel is called Diversity in Children’s Comics and will also feature Micheline Hess (Malice in Ovenland) and Bizhan Khodabanden (The Little Black Fish), and it will be moderated by none other than Rosarium Publishing’s fearless leader (and writer of the recent viral–though long-ago-written–letter to DC Comics about diversity), Bill Campbell. Convention Season 2017

I’m taking a break from writing about Dark Souls (and other related games) this week, to give you all a little update on my convention schedule for this year. Currently, there are a few unconfirmed appearances (and one which I haven’t decided upon just yet), but the months are starting to fill in (admittedly, I’m not the most active con-exhibitor, usually averaging about one a month or month-and-a-half each year). True, I already exhibited at No Such Con in February so this may seem a bit late to be listing what’s coming in 2017, but I don’t usually attend cons in the winter. Now spring is officially here, and I already have an event coming up in May!  Read more… ›

Panel Podcasts from No Such Con

As promised, I’m sharing the podcasts of the artists and writers panels I was on during No Such Con this past weekend. I had a lot of fun at the show (which you can read about in Tuesday’s blog piece: jmdesantis.com/2017/02/no-such-con-2017-write-up/), and both panels were great to participate in. Thanks again to our moderator, author Thomm Quackenbush, for having me on them. Read more… ›

No Such Con 2017 Write Up

When I think of a typical comic convention, my experiences at No Such Con are not what come to mind. The show took place at a college, it was run by students and I was given a half table and paired with a musician and sometimes actor on said table. It sounds terrible, I know. But if that’s the way you think this blog piece is headed, you could not be more wrong. Read more… ›

No Such Con & Panels Schedule

J. M. DeSantis - No Such Con 2017

First, Happy Valentine’s Day to all. I know many people are cynical about the holiday (as it were, for some of you), but all the same, I wish you a happy one and if you do enjoy Valentine’s Day or Gentleman Cthulhu (or both) you can see this week’s comic by clicking over to gentlemancthulhu.com.

That said, this weekend is the recently added though seemingly significant No Such Con at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. I say significant because (as I’ve written about previously) I was invited not only as a guest to the show (my first guest-invite ever), but to speak on four panels (I’ve never done more than one in a single weekend). Support & a Con

J. M. DeSantis Upcoming Convention

It’s been both an exciting and difficult week. On one hand, I was invited to a convention as a guest for the first time ever. On the other hand, the state of things in the United States is equal parts inspiring and frightening (frightening because of Trump’s actions; inspiring because of the actions of those standing up to him). As a result of the latter, I created some new Chadhiyana artwork over the weekend, and so today’s post is going to cover both the con and said artwork. Read more… ›

New York Comic Con Wrap-Up

14581387_1352467198127048_395802735569250547_n

Yet another New York Comic Con has come and gone (my eighth appearance at the show, in fact!). I got some major feedback and compliments from some of my Chadhiyana fans (who are apparently more passionate about the series than I had previously known). Also, my latest publication, Gentleman Cthulhu: Year One (a collection of the first 52 comics from gentlemancthulhu.com) completely sold out by mid-day Saturday. The only downside was that on Sunday I began experiencing considerable stomach pains (likely my diverticulitis acting up, with which I was diagnosed about this time last year), but I did my best to smile through the pain, and I’m doing okay now after a day’s rest.
