Show (Me) Some Love this Month

J. M. DeSantis: Show (Me) Some Love this Month
I know I’ve written sentiments like this before, but February and March are going to be full of activity. First off, besides the work I’m doing and changes I’m making behind the scenes, I’m putting out a new Gentleman Cthulhu comic in a month or two (which I’m funding through my Patreon this month). I’m also planning to finally have some news about Chadhiyana in March. And those are just the projects that people who are familiar with my work know about. So with everything I’m working on and toward, I thought it would be a perfect time to do something of a funds drive, especially for that new Gentleman Cthulhu collection…  Read more… ›

More Updates & Adjustments

J. M. DeSantis: More Updates & Adjustments
I’m sorry I missed my blog post last week. For what it’s worth, I’ve been extremely hard at work behind the scenes, especially on the fiction writing end, and somewhat because of that, I didn’t have the time, energy or even idea of what to write for a blog post last week. As I’ve said and hinted at in the previous few posts, last year was an unplanned year for reflection, and so this year is for application and adjustments based on those reflections—some of which in fact probably go further back than last year. I’d like to think of 2018 as a culmination, and again, what better time for it than now, after ten years of professional work?  Read more… ›

Time is Running Out

J. M. DeSantis Blog: Time is Running Out
The New Year has begun, and this one in particular is a special one (even more so than last year), because 2018 marks 10 years of professionally published work for me. In observance of that, and following last year’s reassessment of things, there are going to be some changes, some familiar things continued, and even a few new things on the horizon. All of that will be revealed in good time, but for now, time (and space) is running out to get a commission by mail from me before the first major change coming this year: my prices are increasing on all services!  Read more… ›

Reflections on 2017

It’s been a strange year, 2017. Indeed, I daresay it’s been humbling. Much has happened and been accomplished this year, but it’s also been a year for much reflection, growth, and change. Most of that change has happened behind the scenes, as it were, but it has shown itself in little ways throughout. Perhaps it’s fitting, as 2017, and to the month specifically (December, that is), marks ten years of professional work for me. Indeed, that seems to be the theme of this entire year for me, though I didn’t plan it that way: to take a step back, reflect on things, and make changes where necessary. Read more… ›

As We Wind Down to the End

J. M. DeSantis Blog: As We Wind Down to the End
2017 is almost at an end (I know, it sort of snuck up on me too!), and there are a few things I have to finish up before the start of the New Year. Not least of these are a number of commissions for this end-2017/beginning-2018 commission season. I’m booked through the end of this year (though I might be able to fit in just one more person between Christmas and New Years if you act fast enough), but January is still open—which is the last opportunity to get a commission from me at my current prices before the price raise in February. But that’s not all… Read more… ›

My First NaNoWriMo Experience

J. M. DeSantis: My First NaNoWriMo Experience
Everything is an experience; I truly believe that. I don’t know that we always learn something, not consciously anyway, but experience alone is something to be valued. It helps inform decisions, makes us more confident, and adds a natural thrill and interest to life. It’s one of the things I love best about living. I love experiencing things, and in this way I take the good with the bad.

As I previously announced, I took part in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) for the first time last month. And though I didn’t complete the challenge (to write 50,000 words by 30 November), I got a lot out of the experience, in some ways more valuable than a first draft of a novel—though indeed I would have liked that too. Commission Are Open & Other Exciting Bits

J. M. DeSantis Commissions are Open!If my first year participating in Inktober proved one thing (aside from my confidence drawing with pen), it’s that no matter the obstacles or setbacks, I’ll come through in the end. Despite a slow down around New York Comic Con and getting sick for nearly a week, I completed the entire thirty-one piece challenge by the end of the day on Halloween.

Now, fresh off of Inktober, I’ve jumped into NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), am opening up commissions until January 31, 2018, and catching up on Chadhiyana, Gentleman Cthulhu , plus putting together an Inktober sketchbook and a larger sketchbook (which has been in development since this past summer). But again, like Inktober, rest assured, I’ll catch up, come Hell or high water. Read more… ›

Coming in November

Coming in November 2017 from J. M. DeSantis
I have to apologise for my absence last week, not just on my blog but on social media for Inktober and on gentlemancthulhu.com. I came down with a nasty stomach virus, and was good for little else but resting and eating bland food. So, whilst I’m behind on just about everything at the moment, I’m catching up and getting ready for some things coming in November (and the months following it even. Read more… ›

Back from the Con(s)

J. M. DeSantis - Back from NYCC 2017
Let me start by writing, I had a blast at New York Comic Con this year. Although parts of it were disappointing, to say the least (Saturday was surprisingly dead, and my worst Saturday on record, despite the show being a success overall), hanging out behind the table with Chris Campana was a lot of fun. So first, thanks to Chris for making it an enjoyable show, and for bouncing ideas and talking shop. That’s the sort of thing you just can’t put a price tag on at a show. Read more… ›

New York Comic Con and Inktober 2017

J. M. DeSantis NYCC 2017
October is going to be an exciting month. This weekend I’ll be making my eighth (?) consecutive appearance at the New York Comic Con (this Thursday through Sunday) in my usual spot these past three or four years: booth 1259 in Small Press. Plus, I’ll have a special guest with me at the show. But even before that, if you follow me on social media (and if not, follow me now), you’ll know that I’ve decided to participate in Inktober this year (that is, wherein artists post an inked drawing a day through the month of October).  Read more… ›
