It’s Been a While…

J. M. DeSantis Blog: It's Been a While...

Since starting my blog back at the end of 2012 (following the publication of the first Chadhiyana comic), I don’t think I’ve ever let so much time pass between posts. The reasons for that are many, but rather than dwell on the past, I’d like to get everyone up to speed on the new, the old, and the behind-but-catching-up (and to do so in as few words as possible).  Read more… ›

No Such Con & The Final Days…

J. M. DeSantis Blog: No Such Con & The Final Days...
First, thank you to the students at Vassar College for their hard work at the No Such Con this past weekend and for inviting me back. I had a great time catching up with some people I met last year–both exhibitors and attendees–and speaking on the panels about Cultural Competency and Self-Publishing respectively (and a special thanks to Danielle Draik and Emily Ree for inviting me to the latter). There were a few surprises during the weekend too, but before I get into that, I want to point out to my readers that the final days are approaching to get your name included in the And They Call it Mummy Love collection as a supporter (deadline: 28 February 2018).  Read more… ›

For the Love of Mummy

J. M. DeSantis's Blog: For the Love of Mummy
Happy (belated) Valentine’s Day, everyone!

I know my blog posts have been coming more sporadically, but (despite committing to writing less about what I’m “working on”) I really have been busy working on a lot (as my Patreon supporters can attest to). Amongst those many things, and as I announced a couple of weeks ago, I’m putting together a collection of the And They Call it Mummy Love series from my web-comic, Gentleman Cthulhu (gentlemancthulhu.com).  Read more… ›

Show (Me) Some Love this Month

J. M. DeSantis: Show (Me) Some Love this Month
I know I’ve written sentiments like this before, but February and March are going to be full of activity. First off, besides the work I’m doing and changes I’m making behind the scenes, I’m putting out a new Gentleman Cthulhu comic in a month or two (which I’m funding through my Patreon this month). I’m also planning to finally have some news about Chadhiyana in March. And those are just the projects that people who are familiar with my work know about. So with everything I’m working on and toward, I thought it would be a perfect time to do something of a funds drive, especially for that new Gentleman Cthulhu collection…  Read more… ›

Time is Running Out

J. M. DeSantis Blog: Time is Running Out
The New Year has begun, and this one in particular is a special one (even more so than last year), because 2018 marks 10 years of professionally published work for me. In observance of that, and following last year’s reassessment of things, there are going to be some changes, some familiar things continued, and even a few new things on the horizon. All of that will be revealed in good time, but for now, time (and space) is running out to get a commission by mail from me before the first major change coming this year: my prices are increasing on all services!  Read more… ›

Reflections on 2017

It’s been a strange year, 2017. Indeed, I daresay it’s been humbling. Much has happened and been accomplished this year, but it’s also been a year for much reflection, growth, and change. Most of that change has happened behind the scenes, as it were, but it has shown itself in little ways throughout. Perhaps it’s fitting, as 2017, and to the month specifically (December, that is), marks ten years of professional work for me. Indeed, that seems to be the theme of this entire year for me, though I didn’t plan it that way: to take a step back, reflect on things, and make changes where necessary. Read more… ›

Commission Are Open & Other Exciting Bits

J. M. DeSantis Commissions are Open!If my first year participating in Inktober proved one thing (aside from my confidence drawing with pen), it’s that no matter the obstacles or setbacks, I’ll come through in the end. Despite a slow down around New York Comic Con and getting sick for nearly a week, I completed the entire thirty-one piece challenge by the end of the day on Halloween.

Now, fresh off of Inktober, I’ve jumped into NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), am opening up commissions until January 31, 2018, and catching up on Chadhiyana, Gentleman Cthulhu , plus putting together an Inktober sketchbook and a larger sketchbook (which has been in development since this past summer). But again, like Inktober, rest assured, I’ll catch up, come Hell or high water. Read more… ›

See You in Baltimore This Weekend

J. M. DeSantis - Baltimore Comic Con 2017
Another year and another Baltimore Comic-Con. It’s one of the shows I’ve done for the longest length of time (in, I believe, about eight years of exhibiting at conventions—since the Fall of 2009), and it’s one of my favourites. Baltimore is extremely artist friendly (just look at the size of its Artist Alley), and I’ve always found the show to be well run and the staff quite friendly (though, admittedly, I’ve never been to a show where the latter wasn’t true). Double or Nothing

J. M. DeSantis Boston Comic Con 2017

The above title actually has a loose double meaning. I have two conventions coming up in the next two weeks, including this weekend’s Boston Comic Con. Though more specifically it refers the delays in publishing Gentleman Cthulhu: Year Two (working title) and that I’ve decide to up the ante and publish two new books in the next couple of months to make up for it and other delays (including Chadhiyana). More, August is the month to have your name featured as a supporter in both of these books (specific information at the end of this post). Read more… ›

Panel Podcasts from No Such Con

As promised, I’m sharing the podcasts of the artists and writers panels I was on during No Such Con this past weekend. I had a lot of fun at the show (which you can read about in Tuesday’s blog piece: jmdesantis.com/2017/02/no-such-con-2017-write-up/), and both panels were great to participate in. Thanks again to our moderator, author Thomm Quackenbush, for having me on them. Read more… ›
