2016 Convention Appearances Begin in One Month

J. M. DeSantis Event Annoucement

Last year, I had a very successful run of conventions. It was the first year in seven years of exhibiting that I success, and more, each convention I appeared at went better than the previous one. This year, I’m hoping to top last year, and it all begins with next month’s East Coast ComiCon (that is, if you don’t count January’s Black Comic Book Festival, where I appeared with Rosarium Publishing). The New J. M. DeSantis Store(s)

J. M. DeSantis News

Last week I teased that there were two new things coming from me starting this month, and as promised so I have delivered. After years of debating with myself about whether or not to take the plunge, I have finally opened an online store for print-on-demand merchandise. In fact, I opened two: one on Society6 and one on Zazzle. Read more… ›

The Wait is Nearly Over

Chadhiyana #3 news

Strange things happen and people die as the witch has appeared to escape. Now, the Tal-Ifatiir order is terrified, and they are starting to blame Chadhiyana for all their supernatural misfortunes. ~ From Rosarium Publishing

Sorry. I know I already posted the above blurb from my publisher when I originally wrote my blog piece on the Chadhiyana #3 release date, but I just really love that quote. I know I’m a little biased, but if this book weren’t my own, that synopsis would certainly get me to buy this issue. That said, for those of you who do not have a NetGalley account, the wait is nearly over to read what the publisher teases above. Chadhiyana #3 will release within the week.  Read more… ›

The Problem of Chapter Breaks in a Graphic Novel Script

J. M. DeSantis Blog Post

NOTE: I wrote the following late last year, and have since found a way of solving the problem for myself (though I’m certain I’ll be re-thinking this solution again someday). That said, I decided to post the following anyway, for what it’s worth.

I tend to be a very heady person, in case some of you who read this blog regularly or semi-regularly didn’t already know. Often I’ll overthink a thing to the point it becomes dizzyingly abstract. Perhaps the following will be deemed such an example, though I would argue my overthinking here has much to do with the lack of any real, concrete rules to follow. Specifically, I’m talking about the lack of a definitive comic script format and how that effects a particular aspect of script writing I’ve not once seen discussed: how to indicate chapter breaks in a graphic novel script? J. M. DeSantis News

January is drawing to a close, and that means we’re almost one month into the new year. Already, my convention schedule is filling up (jmdesantis.com/events/), but even more than that, in just two short weeks the long awaited Chadhiyana #3 will finally be released (through Rosarium Publishing). But that is only the start of what I’m hoping will be an even bigger year than last year. Read more… ›

The 4th annual Black Comic Book Festival is being held this Saturday, January 16th, at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (New York, NY). Reflections on 2015

J. M. DeSantis Blog Post

2015 has been a landmark year! I don’t want to sound like I’m bragging, but I can’t help the truth of it. There have been some amazing things that happened this year, some of which I’ve been wanting or working toward for a good portion of my adult life (some since I was a kid, even). From getting a publisher, to moving into a new place and even winding up in the hospital at one point, 2015 was filled with incredible ups and downs. So pull up a comfortable chair and pour a glass of eggnog. It’s time for my annual reflections on the year past. Read more… ›

Update on Chadhiyana #3

Chadhiyana: In the Company of Shadows News

The end of the year is fast approaching, and typically the last three weeks are planned out for an end-of-year reflection post, a Happy Holidays post, and a Happy New Years post (in that order). So that leaves this week as the last week of the year for any topic I choose, and I haven’t put out any information on the state or release of Chadhiyana #3. I don’t have any official news yet, but I will give you all a bit of something, rather than remaining silent until the first full week in January. Read more… ›
